Pine has a strong, heavy and compact wood. It is resistant to woodworms and its colour is reddish with a darker purple tone. It is an affordable material that can be used for used for a wide range of construction projects, including residential framing and flooring purposes. It has the strength to support a residential frame construction, but is a soft wood, making it malleable and easy to work with.
The biggest advantage of working with pine is its acceptance of nails. Some materials are difficult to drive a nail through – some even require pre-drill holes. Pine is weaker than Spruce, but it contains high amount of resins which ensure durability of created products. There are four grades of pine lumber that fall under the common class; premium, finish, standard and industrial classes. The finish grade is defined as a board with a fine appearance and tight knots.
